THE PARISH OF ST JOHN XXIII PRESTON
Join us at the Parish Church of St Joseph & the
Shrine Church of St Thomas of Canterbury & the English Martyrs
There are five districts of our parish incorporating five former parishes in Preston: St Augustine, St Ignatius, St Joseph, St Teresa and St Thomas of Canterbury & the English Martyrs
Safeguarding
The Diocese of Lancaster has a well-established Safeguarding Commission who acts on behalf of the Bishop and Trustees to protect children, young people and vulnerable adults throughout the Diocese and acts on any report of abuse, whether physical, sexual or mental.

Every parish has at least one Safeguarding Representative who acts as a link between the parish and the Diocesan Safeguarding Coordinator and is to ensure good safeguarding practice in the parish. Moreover, no-one (lay or cleric) works alone (without another adult being present) with children and young people in the parish and all diocesan and national safeguarding policies and procedures are strictly followed.

Parish Safeguarding Representatives (PSR) are to attend regular courses to bring them up to date with safeguarding policies and they ensure that all volunteers in the parish who work with children, young people or vulnerable adults have been checked at least once and will be checked again at regular intervals. The PSR also ensures parishioners who undertake takes are given the relevant information, regarding Safeguarding, and any relevant training signposting.

Our Lady Vulnerata
The statue of Our Lady which adorns the chapel of the English seminary in Valladolid, and whose intercession governs the college there speaks, in its wounded state, of the tragic damage done to infants, children and the vulnerable as well as the pain caused within the Church by abuse in whatever form it takes. 'Vulnerata' literally means wounded/injured and so serves as significant focus for the Church in her efforts to repent for sins committed, to witness for the venerable and wounded and to pray for healing and for all in an age when there is so much hurt in life, and much of it which remains hidden.
